The concept
What is FINALS – and why does it exist?
FINALS is a dance competition for groups. Crews from all over Europe perform a piece they have created themselves: three to six minutes long, with their own music, costumes and theme. A jury of experienced dancers watches every performance and decides who wins.
The style is urban dance: dance styles that grew out of the street and club scene, such as hip hop, popping or breaking. Many people know it from music videos or social media, but rarely get to see it live on a big stage.
That is why FINALS exists. Since 2012, the Braunschweig dance school German Dance Art has organised the event to give these dancers a stage the size of a concert – and to let the audience experience what months of training look like. You don’t need to know anything about dance to enjoy it.
